Real Friends

There are people that will come and go in your life and that is perfectly normal. In college you'll really realize who wants you in their life and who doesn't. Yes you may lose some friends that you've known your whole life, but you also might meet some that will be with you for the rest of your future.  Real friends will call, text, or find some way to stay in your life, even being hours apart. Real friends say they miss you and can't wait to see you again. If you're struggling to maintain an old friendship, maybe its time to just let go.

My Future Dog

Ever since I got my giant yellow lab Link I have been in love with big dogs. Cuddling something fuzzy that is  the same size as you is incomparable. I happened to find the kind of dog I want when I'm older. It is called a Russian Caucasian Mountain Dog. They can get up to about 150-200 lbs. They somewhat resemble a bear and I think they are the cutest, most cuddly things ever. If I had one I would probably name it Koda after the bear in "Brother Bear" (one of my favorite childhood movies). Here are a few pics of the adorable beasts.

Oddly Satisfying

This blog post requires commenting!
Have you ever just had a spoonful of Nutella, or felt a really soft blanket, or drank cold water after chewing minty gum and realized how great life is? I feel like everybody has those weird quarks that bring them a strange amount of satisfaction. For me, I think my favorite thing is those new paint mixing videos on twitter. I waste way more time watching them than I probably should, but oh well! I think it's necessary for everyone to have one of those oddly satisfying things in their life. Comment some of yours!

The Election

I can't say I am a Trump supporter whatsoever, but I also can't say I would vote for Hillary Clinton. I think that the next four years are going to be pretty scary for our country to say the least. Again, I'm not hating on Trump, but its scary that our House, Senate, and Executive Branch is majority Republican. Not to say that Democrats or Republicans are bad/good, but having a government represents one view of the country is not a good thing. Our country is diverse and we need a government that is as well. Guess we'll have to wait for the next election.

Missing Mexico

For my senior spring break trip in high school, a group of friends and I went to Riviera Maya, Mexico. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort for a full week. You could probably guess what most of our time was spent doing, but we did some other things as well. My favorite part of the trip was when we went on a giant catamaran for the day. We jammed to music and once we reached our destination we went snorkeling. I almost got to touch a rare white sea turtle! I actually pet three giant stingrays as well! After that we went to a lagoon for the rest of the day and partied on the boat. It was probably one of the most fun days I've ever had. I wish I could go back.

The Weeknd

ITS OFFICIAL! I AM GOING TO SEE THE WEEKND FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW! He is beyond amazing live. His shows are always incredible and over the top. Last year Travis Scott opened up with "Antidote" and it was a great start to the night. Once the Weeknd came on, flames took over the stage and the party began. My friends and I had a great time, especially with the funny guys in front of us. I heard the Starboy album, and I'm even more excited for this one in May now!

Missing My Best Friend

About two weeks ago my best friend Christian left for boot camp for the Navy. We are the kind of best friends where people never believe we are JUST FRIENDS. We talk all day and snap chat each other constantly. If he sees a cute girl at the gym, he calls me for advice. If I need to rant about my family or a dumb boy, he's my first thought. Or if I see a cute cat...I have to let him know. Ever since he left I've been realizing how big of a part in my life he has really become. I can't wait till he gets home in a few months! We literally never stop laughing and I really miss that in my life right now.

High School Finals vs. College Finals

Looking back, high school finals were a million times more miserable than college. First of all, in high school your finals still start at 7 am. In college, the earliest one you'd have is 8 am. Secondly, after a final in high school you had to sit in your seat until everyone was done, but in college you can leave immediately after and go get some Two-fellas. Having this freedom also allows you to have more time to study for other finals that you may have. To be honest, everything about college is better than high school...finals are no exception to that.

Christmas Break

Whatever you celebrate, I would just like to say Happy Holidays! I can't wait to go home and see my family again! I can't wait to see their faces when they open the gifts I got them either. My favorite part of Christmas is when my dad, brothers, and I go see a movie on Christmas night. Last year we went to see the new Star Wars movie. Another one of my favorite Christmas traditions is to go to Canterbury Village with my mom. We get ornaments personalized together. There is also an Irish store there that we love to go to! I'm so excited to be done with finals and see all my loved ones.

Jerks in the Winter

Alright, so we're all about 18 years old, and you think we'd know how to drive by now right? Hell no. With the first snowfall of the season its as if people have forgotten that ice...wait for it....is slippery! I know, its a very hard concept to grasp completely. I was returning home from the rec when some jerk coming out of Western Heights couldn't break fast enough going down the ramp. Luckily I realized and did not start my turn. The point of this point is don't be that jerk. Look at your surroundings and realize that 25 mph is no longer appropriate around campus unless the roads are cleared. And for those commuting, 60-70 mph is not okay on the freeway either during a snowstorm. My roommate just hit the sidewall because her friend thought that he was smarter that jack frost. Newsflash: that's how people get hurt!

A CATastrophe

Me and my roommate were on our way to TJ Maxx when my mom called me. I answered and she sounded as if someone in the family had passed or something. She couldn't even catch her breath to tell me what happened. Well apparently it wasn't someone that died, but something did. My dog that she rescued from Puerto Rico had gotten out of the room and had gotten one of her cats. Normally there wasn't any issues with him being aggressive but his instincts from the streets must've kicked in tonight. He killed the cat and ripped it apart in my moms living room. It was a very crazy night as you can guess. I can't imagine how bad it must've been to come home to that.

Motivation

So for the last month I have been extremely determined to get back in shape. I've been going five days a week and really pushing through. I do cardio for three miles everyday so today I thought I'd check my progress and step on the scale. Personally, I think I've seen a difference, even just with my energy level. But I almost lost all motivation realizing I actually gained weight. Not that I've ever been obsessed with my weight, but not seeing improvement really pissed me off. But then I realized that not everything is going to happen as quickly as you may want and that is okay...as long as you never give up on your goal!

Lets Talk About Sex

Nowadays it seems sex and relationships mean less and less to people. Maybe people are afraid of being hurt, maybe they're afraid of love too. Maybe it's the fact that we're so young, and anything about of future is terrifying to think of. Its also a scary thing when you can't control your emotions. I think that's why so many kids in college look for such physical relationships. In these types of relationships you know that you can't get hurt, because there isn't any investment. Its sad that in todays society we'd rather give someone their body than give them their heart.

The Birth of a Nation

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to go see this movie. For any of you that studied a lot of US History, it is a story of Nat Turner's life in slavery. It was so eye opening into the actual hardships blacks suffered. It was a really long film, but completely worth every minute. It does make you cringe at some parts, but if you knew anything about the Turner Rebellion you would have already expected it. If you're a history buff like me this could possibly be one of the best, and most historically accurate films you'll see.

New Experiences

It may be cliché to say, but college has already started to open my eyes to new experiences. In high school everything seems like the end of the world. You failed a test (you're parents will kill you!), your boyfriend of a month broke up with you (you'll never find love again!), you had the same dress as the girl you hate at prom (your life is a mockery!). Everything is different here though. You here over and over how everyone is going through the same thing in college, but in a great way we're not! I think the fact that we're all so different is really comforting actually. Hearing about others life experiences, or just meeting new people can really make you take a step back and put your life into perspective. Maybe it doesn't matter that you totally rocked that prom dress better than Jessica. Maybe it doesn't matter that your GPA went down .002 points because of that big test. Maybe it doesn't matter that idiot of a boy didn't want you anymore. These things don't matter as much in college because you hear about other's experiences and you realize how much bigger your life can become.

The Daily Grind

I don't know if anyone else is feeling like they're sinking, but I know I do. Since the week of fall welcome I have not had one single day where I could just relax. I haven't even had a day that I could just go to classes and enjoy my day. Nope. Its like I'm chasing something I can't get to right now. I'm in the honors college and trying to keep up with so many little assignments is driving me a little crazy. Its not that its hard material, there's just so much to remember. I'm hoping this will eventually calm down, cause I'm starting to get really stressed out. Let me know if you guys feel the same :)

Shameless

For anyone with a Netflix account that is reading this....STOP! Go watch the show Shameless right now. It really is an amazing show. To be completely honest it is really messed up but it's kind of cool in the fact that you get to realize what some people deal with at home and how they've been raised. I think it really relates to us being at college because we're surrounded by people from so many different backgrounds now. Watching it has made me realize how easy I had it growing up personally. I know you're probably all busy doing homework right now, but if you get some free time its a good thing to binge watch and a good way to avoid your responsibilities.

Going Home

To all the new freshman, I think most of us can agree that we've had some home sickness over the past three weeks-four for me. I miss my parents, brothers, and dogs so much its starting to hurt. However, I've tried to limit  too much contact with them because I want to grow and assimilate here by myself. But that's not to say you ignore them, after all it is your family. With that being said though, DO NOT GO HOME EVERY WEEKEND! You will miss out on so much fun the university has to offer. Even if you're not a big partier, its free time to get out and experience new things and meet new people. College is more than school, its an experience. We all came here because we didn't want to go to a community college for our first two years, so don't waste your opportunities to grow.

My Crappy Day

So I know all of us have had those awful day from hell that never seem to end. I experienced one of those days yesterday. My first Business Enterprise paper was due this morning and I tried to not procrastinate. I did the majority of it Sunday and Monday morning however, in my class Monday night I accidentally saved my health notes as my paper-overriding ALL OF THE WORK I DID! I nearly screamed in the middle of class. And once I got out of class my day got even worse. I walked out to my car on East campus to see I had a parking ticket. So far college is kicking my butt and its only the third week. Luckily, I've made some pretty good friends so they helped me get my paper done in time though. You've got to have people like that in your corner, otherwise days like yesterday can be so much worse.

A few days ago classes here at WMU started and while most everyone is excited about the new school year I have become enraged at one very particular thing-the price of all the freaking books we need-since apparently $25,000 a year wasn't enough. Don't get me wrong I love my new school but the fact that I just spent $470 out of pocket on textbooks, clickers, subscriptions, etc. really irritates me. I know its not just this school, its everywhere. And again, I'm not one of those college kids that thinks college and anything I want out of life should be provided by the government, but please tell me how 200 pieces of loose leaf paper with ink on them-not even binded together costs $155! I know I need a college education in todays society but I do believe students are completely taken advantage of when it comes to these things. I guess we can't do anything about it though except laugh at the pile of debt we'll all be in in a few years. College lol.
